Owl Cake for a Babyshower

Owl Cake made from Round Cake Pans

Here is the owl cake that I made for my sister's baby shower. I love the way it turned out and it was really easy to do. Here's how I did it:

Owl Cake made from Round Cake Pans

I used 2 boxes of cake mix, I used spice cake, I thought it would be a nice change from the normal white or chocolate. Bake the mix in two- 13" round pans and two- 9" round pans.

The two 9" round cakes are the eyes and one of the 13" round cakes are the body. The other 13" round cake you cut into your wings, feet, and top of head. Here is what it looks like before iced.

Next, decorate! I used 2 jugs of icing, making these shades of brown and a little yellow for the beak and feet.

I think this would be cute for any party! Hope you all had a good weekend.

  3. Totally adorable!! I love getting ideas for cakes done in this fashion. No one's kitchen has the space for a ton of shaped pans. Martha's Magazine recently published some templates for a Dog, Bear, Fish, and Owl, but your owl is WAY cuter. http://www.marthastewart.com/899443/dog-cake-how#/899176

  17. This is so cute. I wanted to make this for my son's first bday party but unfortunately I can't print out the wings, feet, eye brows so that I can use them as a template. Thanks for the inspiration, but now I have to find something I like just as much.

  28. The owl is so cute, what a great job. I have been asked if I could make an owl like yours. I'm not a cake decorator just someone that dabbles in decorating cakes to make people happy. C ould you belet us know what decorating tip you used and also if you have the measurements to make the heard crown. Thanks

    1. Sorry, I don't but it is really easy to just cut it out then slice off a little more to make it perfect. And any mistake you make you can always fill in with icing!

    1. Um, you could either find smaller cake pans or cut the pieces out of a sheet cake?
