If you don't know about Project Run and Play you should head over to their blog and watch this series progress. Project Run & Play is kind of the blogger's version of Project Runway except with kid clothes. The ladies chosen as contestants have been super talented and I actually started this blog after I found the contest in hopes that one day I would be invited to play.... but now that they are reserving two spots for people to be voted in. After reading this I got to work.
I first made a dress for my entry but even though the dress was a cool design with a neat fabric combination I felt like I need something a little different to get me noticed. So I choose to do a romper! A Rainbow Romper =)
I wanted the romper to have the look of a dress but really be shorts, which are more practical for play.
I also wanted the romper to be easy to take off and put on so I put a 14 inch zipper all the way down the front. This made it really practical for my 4 year old to go to the bathroom.
I used one of my daughter's t-shirt to make a pattern for the top of the romper and then a pair of her shorts to design the bottom half. I am going to post the tutorial here.
But in true Run & Play style I couldn't just do a romper- so I made a matching outfit for Samantha, one of the Waldorf dolls I made.
Her navy blue romper is fastened with Velcro down the front and sports the same rainbow belt and light blue piping around the arm holes and neckline as the bigger outfit.
Then to accessorize... I choose to make a reversible bucket hat. One side is a rainbow print and the other is the navy blue.
Ok, that is it. My entry. I am so excited, I really, really want to play.
So keep your fingers crossed!
