Chevron Baby Blanket

Chevron's are all the rage now-a-days so I thought this was a good choice for design on the afghan I made for my nephew Liam.

I used this pattern from Ravelry: Chevron Crochet Baby Blanket by Laura Kovacs. If you are a knitter or crocheter you need to be a member of this site! It has tons of free patterns for just about anything imaginable.

Easy to follow pattern and the blanket actually came together really fast! I used white and turquoise Love This Yarn from Hobby Lobby, 2 skeins each. I washed it a couple times before giving it to Liam and it turned out quite soft and cozy.

Little Liam's Lion

 

This is my nephew Liam. It seems like just yesterday we welcomed him into this world (shirts we wore to the hospital). But in reality it's been almost 5 months and like 5 month olds- he chews on everything and loves bold contrasting toys. 

I kept this in mind while I picked an animal to crochet him for Christmas. Looking through a file I have on my ipad of images I saved from the Internet (back before Pinterest) and I found this photo of a crocheted stuffed lion...

 

 

he is so cute! Since I saved the file I don't have the link to see who's photo or pattern this belongs  to(I can't find it on a google images search either?) so if you know please leave me a comment and I will place the link to this original lion.

 

 

It was a pretty easy pattern to figure out, I just made the body a rectangle and the arms/legs tear drop shaped. Really it is the face and mane that make him so unique and lovable.

 

 

I made him about 12 inches tall and the body about 5 inches wide. This turned out to be the perfect size for him to hold and use for a pillow.

 

 

Liam really loves the lion and rolled over just to reach for him a couple weeks ago... it's nice to be appreciated =)

Adventure Time!

What time is it? ADVENTURE TIME!!
My son is in LOVE with the show. He actually told me this week "I am so glad today is Monday, because a new Adventure Time comes on tonight." To be honest I have never seen the show, but with all my "research" I put in to making his Adventure Time Painted Shoes for Christmas I know all the charaters' names and can draw them all. =) I am sure that this is time I will never be able to recoup. But with his birthday coming up I know what the theme for this year will be!!
I thought it would be a neat gift to make him a set of Adventure Time characters for his birthday (it's in March so I will have plenty of time). Here are the first:

Piggie & Gerald Crochet Dolls

One of the projects that I worked on during this Christmas break was some Gerald and Piggie dolls/figurines for my son. He is a HUGE Mo Willems fan (he even had a Piggie and Gerald themed birthday party this year: read about it here and here.)  If you don't know who Piggie and Gerald are then go to the library!! The Piggie and Elephant Books by Mo Willems are my son's absolute favorite. He has read every book about 30 times each. So I thought that some little cute figurines to act out their adventures would be a great idea for him. Here is what I came up with...

They are made entirely from my own pattern, (really proud of myself, this is my first).

I am going to make another set to sell on Etsy, hopefully it goes faster than this trail and error first set I made. I might even sell the pattern after a few more sets (need to make sure that the pattern makes sense.)

The dolls are crocheted with felt eyes (and mouth for Piggie). I embroidered Gerald's glasses and mouth and Piggie's snout and eyebrows.
